New Orleans Employment Based Permanent Residence
Oftentimes, U.S. companies will hire individuals who are not citizens. Eventually the employer will want to move the individual to the U.S. or sponsor their citizenship. However, this requires paperwork for both the employer and the employee. At The Immigration Law Firm of New Orleans, we work with clients to help them obtain employment based permanent residence.
There are several levels of employment based permanent residence, and each category is given a different preference. From highest to lowest preference, the categories are EB1-EB5:
- EB1, priority workers: People with extraordinary ability, such as university professors or researchers and transferring executives from multinational companies.
- EB2, 2nd preference: Professionals holding advanced degrees and persons of exceptional ability in music, arts, or sciences.
- EB3, 3rd preference: Professional workers, skilled workers and unskilled workers. Only 40,000 EB3s are available each year.
- EB4, 4th preference: Special immigrants, religious workers, such as ministers, former US government workers and children dependent on the US foster care system.
- EB5, 5th preference: Investors willing to invest $500,000 to $1 million in a new United States business that would create jobs for U.S. workers.
