Michael W. Gahagan is the owner of Gahagan Law Firm, LLC, The Immigration Law Firm of New Orleans. Mr. Gahagan practices Immigration Law and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) law exclusively in federal courts and federal immigration courts nationwide. Mr. Gahagan was selected by Super Lawyers as a 2015, 2016, and 2017 Super Lawyers Rising Star. Mr. Gahagan has been a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) since 2008 and the AILA Federal Litigation Section since 2013; and Mr. Gahagan has been the AILA Mid-South Chapter Federal Court Litigation Chairman since 2013. Mr. Gahagan has also been an AILA National Committee Member on the Distance Learning Committee since 2017.
In addition to holding positions within AILA, Mr. Gahagan is consistently invited to be an expert speaker at AILA conventions nationwide on the topics of immigration law, federal immigration litigation, FOIA and FOIA litigation.
Mr. Gahagan has successfully represented hundreds of clients in federal court litigation against the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). Mr. Gahagan has successfully represented clients in both the Federal District Courts and the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals due to the government’s unlawful delay and unlawful denial of immigration applications, unlawful delay and unlawful denial of naturalization applications, FOIA lawsuits, Bivens actions against government employees for Constitutional violations, Habeas Corpus actions for unlawful detention, and Mandamus actions against USCIS for its refusal to issue Permanent Residence Cards after adjustment of status was granted in Immigration Court.
In addition to federal court litigation, Mr. Gahagan also represents hundreds of clients annually at the administrative level in front of the Immigration Courts, the Board of Immigration Appeals, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, and the U.S. Department of State. Mr. Gahagan represents clients in the Immigration Courts in Jena, LA, Oakdale, LA, New Orleans, LA, and in every other Immigration Court in America.
