Qualifications for Obtaining United States Citizenship
- If you are married to a U.S. citizen, you must have had permanent residency for three years. If you are not married to a U.S. citizen, you must have had permanent residency for five years.
- You must have made the U.S. your country of residence while you were a permanent resident.
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- You must have good moral character.
- You must be able to read, write and speak English.
- You must know U.S. history and government.
- You must be able to say the oath of allegiance and accept the principles of the U.S. Constitution.
